PMP Exam Preparation
Things to keep in the back of your mind as you sit for the PMP exam. (I took my exam in August 2023. This information is based on this.)
It’s a lot of work BUT I passed my PMP exam after only 4 days of studying! That was it. It’s ALL about strategy when studying for the exam. Check out David McLachlan’s YouTube videos below plus Gabor Stramb’s free study groups. You got this!
David McLachlan has a fantastic way of breaking down terms and information in his videos. I used these exclusively when I studied for my PMP and ACP exam.

Exam Day Tips
You are a servant leader. A servant leader is someone who prioritizes the well-being and growth of their team members, with the goal of serving and supporting them to achieve their full potential. This leadership style emphasizes collaboration, empathy, and a focus on the needs of others rather than solely on the leader's own interests.
You never push work onto others or your project sponsor. It is your responsibility to manage and handle issues.
Communications is always valued.
Pay attention to what the story problem is asking of you. If it talks about Agile, then the answer most likely will align with a Agile approach. If it mentions Waterfall or predictive, answer accordingly.
Understand the difference between Agile (adaptive) and Waterfall (predictive).
Understand the differences between Incremental and Iterative.
Incremental approach in project management involves breaking down the project into small, manageable parts and delivering them in sequential phases, allowing for partial implementation and feedback at each stage.
Iterative approach in project management focuses on repeating cycles of development, with each iteration refining and improving the project based on feedback, fostering flexibility and continuous enhancement throughout the process.
If you don’t know the answer to a question in a timely matter mark it for review and move on.
It is not necessary to memorize all the knowledge areas and processes in the PMBOK 6 guide for this exam.
PMP Exam Information
For the PMP exam, there are two 10-minute breaks in the exam. The first will appear after you complete questions 1- 60 and review all of your answers. The second break will appear after you have completed question 120 and confirmed that you have reviewed all of your answers.
Please note, once you review your responses and start your break you will not be able to return to the questions from the previous section of the exam.
If you do not pass your first exam attempt, you may take the examination up to three times within your one-year eligibility period. After three attempts, you must wait one year from the date of the last examination before you reapply for the certification.
You have 230 minutes to complete the exam.
